Horrific attack on Ishraq supporters at Nagar Bhaban
There have been allegations that outsiders have carried out a horrific attack on Dhaka residents protesting at the Nagar Bhaban of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) demanding that BNP leader Ishraq Hossain be made mayor.
It is learnt that outsiders suddenly attacked the protesters who had gathered at Nagar Bhaban under the banner of Dhaka residents from 11am on Tuesday (June 24).
Talking to some of the injured in the attack, it was learnt that the protesters were peacefully staying at the gate of Nagar Bhaban as usual. At that time, several youths attacked them with country-made weapons.
Journalists were not spared from the attack. The attackers also threatened the journalists present by brandishing knives.
Several protesters were seriously injured in the attack. Protesters Monir, Jasim, Mohidul, Jewel, Qayyum, Dinar, Johnny and several others have been admitted to the hospital with serious injuries.
Arif Chowdhury, president of the Sramik Karmachari Union, has alleged that the attack was led by Engineer Rubel, who is known to be close to Local Government Advisor Asif.
Arif Chowdhury also said that he was injured in the attack.
He said that Rubel, an engineer of the City Corporation, who is accused by the ACC, organized outsiders to carry out the attack in order to divert the just movement of the people of Dhaka into a different sector. Rubel is also known as the closest associate of illegal mayor (former) Fazle Noor Taposh. It is also alleged that during the regime of fascist Sheikh Hasina, this Rubel used to distribute all the contracting work of the City Corporation through a syndicate.
