Husband surrenders to police after hacking wife to death in Munshiganj
Husband Sumon Mia surrendered to police after hacking a housewife named Mitu Akter (32) to death with a baton over a family dispute in Mirkadim, Munshiganj.
The incident took place at around 2 am on Monday (May 19) in the Purbapara area of Mirkadim Municipality. Later, husband Sumon surrendered at Munshiganj Sadar Police Station at around 5 am. He is the son of Shariatullah Mia of Purbapara of the municipality. On the other hand, the deceased Mitu Akter is known to be the daughter of Montu Mia of Pathar village of Naydighi in the same municipality.
Eyewitnesses and relatives said that Sumon married Mitu Akter about 8 months ago. The deceased Mitu Akter had another marriage before. He has three children there. On the other hand, this is the second marriage for Sumon. There had been a family feud and quarrel between them since their marriage.
A few days ago, Mitu went to her father’s house after a quarrel, and yesterday her husband’s friends brought her back home. That same day, around 2 am, after drinking with friends, her husband Sumon, with the help of his friends, hit his wife Mitu with a sharp object on various parts of her body and neck, causing her death. Later, in the morning, she voluntarily surrendered to the police station.
In this regard, Munshiganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Alam said that Sumon Mia, the husband, killed his wife and surrendered to the police station himself. He also said that the body was recovered at that time and sent to the morgue of Munshiganj General Hospital for autopsy.
