India’s Himachal Pradesh devastated by flash floods and landslides. So far, 51 people have been reported dead. At least 22 people are missing. Houses, livestock and government infrastructure have been severely damaged in about 12 districts of the state, including Mandi, Solan, Shimla and Kullu. Thousands of people have been stranded. More than fifty people have been reported to have lost their lives in floods, landslides and lightning strikes so far. Many more are missing. The army is working alongside locals to rescue them. However, the rescue work is being hampered due to the inaccessible mountain roads and heavy rains.
According to Indian media, the damage to private property in this disaster is more than 88 lakh rupees. However, the government infrastructure has suffered more damage, the financial value of which is about 283 crore rupees. Communication systems are being disrupted due to the collapse of several bridges and roads. In addition, public life is disrupted due to the disconnection of power connections. The state’s Chief Minister has announced to send relief aid to the flood victims. Meanwhile, the state’s tourism industry is also being affected due to the flood situation caused by continuous rains, said the concerned people.
