Israel allows ‘limited’ aid into Gaza
Israel has agreed to ease the blockade on Gaza and provide ‘limited’ food supplies. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office announced this on Sunday (May 18).
Tel Aviv made the announcement after the Israeli army announced the launch of a ‘broad ground operation’ in the northern and southern parts of the valley.
Israel imposed the blockade last March. Then the risk of famine in Gaza increased. Israel has intensified its operation in Gaza amid this risk.
Where Palestinian health officials said, ‘Hundreds of people have been killed in attacks in the past week. Of which 130 were reported killed in attacks overnight on Monday alone.’
Meanwhile, Netanyahu’s office said that Israel agreed to ease the blockade and provide limited aid following a recommendation from the IDF (Israel Defense Forces).
It will also allow a “basic amount” of food to be delivered to the Palestinians to prevent a hunger crisis due to the practical need to expand the war to defeat Hamas.
Meanwhile, a new round of indirect talks between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas in Qatar on a ceasefire were reported to have made no progress.
Netanyahu said, “The talks included a ceasefire and a hostage agreement, as well as an offer to end the war in exchange for Hamas’s expulsion and demilitarization of the Valley – conditions Hamas has previously rejected.”
