Journalist Ehsan Mahmud is being lied to: Mirza Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that journalist and writer Ehsan Mahmud is being lied to. He made this allegation in a statement sent to the media on Tuesday (July 1) night. Mirza Fakhrul said, ‘Recently, lies are being told about journalist and writer Ehsan Mahmud on social media. A group is deliberately spreading this propaganda.’ He said, ‘Ehsan Mahmud was fired from his job in July 2023 under pressure from the fascist government while performing his professional duties during the decadent dictatorship. I personally made arrangements for him to flee the country when he faced various tortures from the Awami fascist government. At that time, Sweden-based news agency Netra News gave Ehsan Mahmud a job and guaranteed his security, so he did not have to emigrate.’

Mirza Fakhrul said, ‘Even before the July-August movement, Ehsan Mahmud was involved in the democratic struggle, was present on the streets, and was also the initiator of organizing meetings and seminars. Ehsan Mahmud was vocal in the anti-dictatorship movement in July-August, writing and on the streets. I condemn and protest this planned campaign against him.’ Incidentally, journalist Ehsan Mahmud was the presenter at a special discussion titled ‘Mass Uprising 2024: National Unity and Democratic Movement’ organized at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Center on Tuesday afternoon. But leaders, activists and media workers expressed anger after seeing him present. They called Ehsan Mahmud an accomplice of the dictatorship and objected to presenting at events like the July Mass Uprising. He was later removed from the stage.
