A murder case has been filed almost a year after seven-year-old Riya Gop was shot dead on the roof of her house in the DIT area of Narayanganj city during the July 19 mass uprising last year. On Tuesday (July 1), Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Abu Raihan filed the murder case as the plaintiff. 150 to 200 unidentified miscreants from the Awami League and its various affiliates have been named as accused in the case. The deceased Ripa Gop (7) was the only child of Deepak Kumar Gop and Beauty Gop, owners of a building in Hosiyari Market in the city’s Nayamati area. Riya was admitted to a primary school last year.

The police complaint states that on the afternoon of July 19 last year, 150 to 200 unidentified miscreants of the Awami League opened fire and hurled bombs at the marchers with firearms. Later, the child Riya Gop was taken to the city’s Narayanganj General (Victoria) Hospital in a life-threatening condition. From there, the child was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Riya Gop died in the hospital on July 24 while undergoing treatment there.
