Lawyer’s legal notice to Sarjis Alam
A legal notice has been given to Md. Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) in the northern region, for making derogatory comments about the High Court on social media.
Supreme Court lawyer Md. Jasim Uddin gave the notice on Saturday.
The notice has asked him to seek a written unconditional apology from the Chief Justice through the Registrar General of the Supreme Court. He has also been asked to hold a press conference and apologize to the people of the country within two hours.
Otherwise, the lawyer will file a contempt of court case against him.
After sending the notice, lawyer Jasim Uddin told the media that in addition to the postal mail, it has also been sent to Sarjis Alam’s WhatsApp number.
The notice said that lawyer Mamunur Rashid filed a writ in the High Court challenging the election tribunal’s verdict and the Election Commission’s gazette declaring Md. Ishraq Hossain as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation. After the hearing, the High Court dismissed the writ petition outright on Thursday.
After the verdict was announced, you (Sargis) gave a response on your verified Meta (Facebook) ID at around 11:49 AM. Which was published in the media. Through this comment, you have shown disrespect towards the judiciary, a pillar of the state. Which is humiliating and contempt of court.
