Letter to US lawmakers calls for recognition of Palestine

More than a dozen Democratic lawmakers in the US House of Representatives have called on the Trump administration to recognize a Palestinian state. US media outlet CNN News reported this in a report on Monday (August 4). The initiative comes amid growing concern among US lawmakers about the severity of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza following the 22-month war. It comes at a time when the UK, France and Canada have recently signaled they are reassessing their positions on recognizing Palestinian statehood. The letter, proposed by California Congressman Ro Khanna, was signed by Chely Pingree, Nydia Velazquez and Jim McGovern. Nine lawmakers, including Greg Kaiser, Lloyd Doggett, Veronica Escobar and Andre Carson, had previously supported it.
