Modi government does not agree to India’s Bangladesh tour!
India was supposed to visit Bangladesh in August to play a full series. But for now, it is no longer happening. Because Narendra Modi’s government does not agree to Virat Kohli’s tour. BBC Bangla reported this information, citing multiple government sources in the country. BBC Bangla has learned that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet received the green signal from the government. Delhi believes that the political situation in Bangladesh under the interim government of Dr. Muhammad Yunus and the cooling of relations between the two countries are not conducive to Rohit’s tour. A source in the Indian Home Ministry said, ‘If the Indian cricket team goes to Bangladesh in this situation, it will send the wrong message to the common people.’
For this reason, the Bangladesh Cricket Board is officially talking to the BCB to ‘reschedule’ the BCCI tour. The BCCI wants to do this tour after the IPL in 2026. The Indian board believes that then there will be an elected government in Bangladesh and the environment will be better. A BCCI official said, ‘Bangladesh and Pakistan are not the same, we have to remember this. We have a long-standing good relationship with the Bangladesh Board. If for some reason the series does not happen now, it can be done later.’
Earlier, last year, the Bangladesh cricket team toured India despite the political changes in Bangladesh. Even then, some extremist organizations demanded the cancellation of the series. The hashtag ‘BoycottBangladeshCricket’ trended on Indian social media. But the Indian government did not cancel the series because if they did not play two Tests in that series, they would have lost the World Test Championship points. However, even if the Bangladesh tour is canceled now, India will not suffer much. Therefore, the Indian Cricket Board believes that the tour can be postponed. Rajiv Shukla is the new Indian Board President. He is called a ‘moderate’ and Indian board officials hope that he can maintain friendly relations.
