More than 70,000 children face acute hunger in Gaza

More than 70,000 children in the war-torn Gaza Strip in Palestine are suffering from acute malnutrition due to the Israeli blockade. Al Jazeera reported this information citing the UN World Food Programme (WFP).

The report said that although Israel has allowed aid to enter Gaza, most of the aid trucks have not yet entered Gaza.

On Saturday (May 24), the UN agency said on social media X, “WFP is taking every opportunity to provide food and nutrition assistance – but this is like a drop in a bucket.”

The post also said, “To avert famine and save lives, we need immediate, unhindered and safe access to supplies.”

Aid agencies say that despite the permits, little has been done to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with food, clean water and medicine still in serious shortages.

Israel has lifted its blockade this week to allow aid into Gaza. A military agency says 83 trucks of food and medicine have entered Gaza on Friday.

The United Nations has repeatedly said the amount of aid it is providing is nothing compared to the needs of the 2.1 million people in the territory. They need between 500 and 600 truckloads of aid every day.

Gaza is in a state of anarchy due to the limited food supply. Aid convoys are being attacked and people are rushing to shops for bread.

The United Nations warned earlier this month of a famine. Many people there have told the BBC that they have no food and that starving, malnourished mothers are unable to breastfeed their babies.

Meanwhile, at least 79 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip in a single day due to Israeli brutality. About 250 have been injured. Not only in the bombings, but there have been allegations that the Israeli army is using Palestinians as human shields against the Israeli army, violating all the rules of war.
