Nearly 234,000 Afghans left Iran in June

The UN migration agency said on Monday (June 30). The Pakistani news agency Dawn reported this information in a report on Monday. It said that most of them were sent back because they did not have valid documents. However, the number of repatriations has increased before the deadline set by Tehran. International Organization for Migration (IOM) spokesman Awand Aziz Agha told a news agency that 233,941 people returned to Afghanistan from Iran from June 1 to 28. Of these, 131,912 returned in one week (June 21-28).

He said that a total of 691,049 people returned from January 1 to June 28, 2025. He said that 70 percent of them were forcibly returned. Meanwhile, Afghans say that the number of returns has increased in recent weeks. In May, Iran announced a deadline of July 6 for illegal Afghans to leave the country. The IOM has reported that 30,000 people have returned daily for several days in recent weeks. On the other hand, Taliban border authorities and the United Nations have reported that around 6,000 to 7,000 people have been returning daily in recent days. However, this number is expected to increase further before the deadline.
