No concessions will be made on expatriate voting rights: Jamaat Ameer

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has demanded that the expatriate voting rights be ensured before the upcoming national elections. He said, “No success will be seen by ignoring 11 million expatriates. Not giving the remittance warriors the right to vote is a cruel mockery. This will lead to a dire outcome for the country’s economy. We have no compromise on this. The Election Commission must take immediate action in this regard.”

He said these things at a Meet the Press event organized at Sheraton, Dhaka Hotel in Banani, the capital, on Tuesday.

Calling on the Election Commission to make arrangements to officially return Jamaat’s registration and symbol as per the court verdict, the Jamaat Ameer said, “We hope that the current Election Commission will protect the dignity of their chair. For this, Jamaat will provide all kinds of cooperation. But Jamaat will not remain silent if it sees any exception.’ He also demanded that local government elections be held before the national elections to test the capacity of the current Election Commission.
