Nursing College Students Blockade Shahbag

Diploma nursing students have blocked Shahbag in the capital. They have organized this program to demand that diploma nursing be made equivalent to a degree.

They occupied Shahbag on Wednesday (May 14) at around 2:30 pm, ignoring the rain.

Earlier, the students had given an ultimatum by taking a stand at the central Shaheed Minar in the capital. However, they blocked Shahbag because the government did not respond to the ultimatum.

Recently, nursing students across the country have been protesting demanding degree equivalence. The protesting students claim that the role of diploma-holding nurses in the nursing profession is very important in the country. Yet, nurses who have completed diploma courses are facing discrimination in the professional and administrative fields. They feel that even after completing a four-year diploma course, they are being neglected and deprived in terms of jobs as they are not evaluated like degree holders.

They also said that despite repeatedly informing the concerned authorities, no effective initiative has been taken so far. Therefore, they were forced to take to the streets.
