One-hour strike by employees in the Secretariat
According to the announcement of a one-hour strike every day until the Government Service Act Amendment Ordinance is repealed, the agitating employees have observed a one-hour strike today from 10 am to 11 am. They have warned that this strike will continue until the ordinance is repealed.
Earlier, it was announced at a press conference on Wednesday that an hour-long strike will be held by officials and employees in the Secretariat every day from 10 am to 11 am. And the strike will continue at the same time in government institutions across the country. However, in hospitals and other emergency services, the strike will continue for a shorter period if necessary.
The co-chairman said at the press conference, the country is currently going through a transitional period. Eid al-Adha and the budget will be announced in a few days. Therefore, we have decided to continue our strike activities in the coming days, considering all aspects, so that the employees do not cause suffering to the common people. At the same time, a peaceful strike will continue from 10 am to 11 am every day, keeping in mind the emergency services. The strike will continue in all offices, departments, agencies, DC offices and divisional offices at the field level from 10 am to 11 am every day until the demands are met and the next program is announced.
Earlier in the morning, Senior Secretary of the Land Ministry ASM Saleh Ahmed said that Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid will present the demands of the agitating Secretariat Officers and Employees Unity Forum to Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, demanding the withdrawal of the ‘Government Jobs (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025’. He is currently abroad. A decision will be taken after discussing the matter after he returns to the country.
It is worth noting that the Advisory Council approved the draft of the amended Government Jobs Ordinance in its meeting last Thursday (May 22). Which was published in the gazette last Sunday evening.
