Passengers should be photographed at the stop to avoid robberies in transport: Home Affairs Advisor

To avoid robberies and unwanted incidents during the Eid journey, passengers should be photographed at every stop where they are picked up, Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said. He told reporters in front of the Home Affairs Advisor’s office at the Secretariat on Tuesday (June 3).

The advisor said, “We and the representatives of the Bus Owners Association sat down. Last time, we were able to conduct the Eid journey without any problems. You (journalist) have also publicized this. We hope that this time the Eid journey will also be smooth. Last time, they took the government-set fare while going. But on the way back, they did not take the set fare at a few places. This time, we sat down so that the government-set fare is charged on the way to and from. The owners have agreed not to charge more than the government-set fare.”

He said, “We have seen many times that drivers who are not skilled are allowed to drive buses during the Eid season.” But we have requested them not to allow incompetent drivers to drive buses. If they are allowed to drive buses, accidents can happen. The Home Affairs Advisor said that sometimes, many robbers disguise themselves as passengers board buses. To avoid this problem, photographs of passengers will be taken in all long-distance transport. Photographs of everyone who boards the bus from the first stop to the last stop will be taken. Giving an example, he said, for example, passengers will be stopped from Amin Bazar. Photographs of all passengers will be taken there and the doors will be closed. There are some buses that also board passengers in Savar. They will have to take photographs from Savar as well. There are three people in each bus. If I have any concerns about any untoward incident, they will immediately contact the owner and law enforcement.
