    Rape in love trap in Jamalpur, youth sentenced to life

    A court has sentenced a youth named Md. Bashir Uddin to life imprisonment in a case of raping a young woman on the promise of marriage in Bakshiganj, Jamalpur. On Thursday (July 3) afternoon, Judge Abdur Rahim of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 of the Jamalpur District and Sessions Judge’s Court gave this order. At the same time, he was fined one lakh taka.The convicted Md. Bashir Uddin is the son of Abul Hossain of Tupkarchar village in Bakshiganj upazila.

    According to the case sources, Md. Bashir Uddin had a love affair with the young woman. Taking this opportunity, he raped her multiple times by tempting her to marry him. On June 10, 2015, he entered the young woman’s house in Tupkarchar of the upazila and raped her. At one point, when the young woman asked her boyfriend Bashir Uddin to marry her, he did not agree to marry her. Later, on June 25 of that year, the young woman filed a case with Bakshiganj Police Station alleging rape. Advocate Md. Fazlul Haque, the state’s lawyer in the case, said that after taking the testimonies of 8 witnesses in the case, the court sentenced her to life imprisonment. In addition, it imposed a fine of one lakh taka.
