Syrian President Thanks Trump for Lifting Sanctions
Syrian Interim President Ahmed al-Shara thanked US President Donald Trump for lifting the sanctions. France 24 reported this in a report on Thursday (May 15).
Earlier, on Tuesday (May 13), Trump announced the lifting of long-standing US sanctions on Syria. Washington imposed sanctions on the country during the reign of former Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad.
On Wednesday (May 14), Ahmed al-Shara called the decision to lift the sanctions “historic and courageous” and claimed that the US decision has begun to restore stability in Syria.
He said – I would like to say with gratitude that President Trump has responded to our love. The decision to lift the sanctions was historic and courageous. Which will alleviate the suffering of the people. At the same time, it has laid the foundation for stability in the region.
It is worth noting that Trump met with al-Shara in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh on Wednesday. This is the first meeting between top US and Syrian leaders in 25 years.
