Tarique Rahman urges government to intensify efforts to resolve Rohingya crisis

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has urged the interim government to intensify diplomatic efforts to resolve the Rohingya crisis. He made the call in a post on social media Facebook on Friday (June 20) to mark World Refugee Day.

In the post, Tarique Rahman said, “Today is World Refugee Day. We express solidarity with hundreds of thousands of forcibly displaced people around the world. For Bangladesh, this is not just a global issue, it is our living reality.”

The BNP Acting Chairman wrote, “Bangladesh is demonstrating its humanitarian commitment to the displaced Rohingya by sheltering more than 1.4 million Rohingyas in Cox’s Bazar. But this crisis is one of the world’s most epic and the burden is growing dangerously unstable.”

Calling on the interim government, he said, “We urge the interim government to intensify diplomatic efforts and put sustained pressure on Myanmar for the safe, dignified and voluntary repatriation of the Rohingyas. The international community must ensure that this is done by all parties, because the crisis is far from over.

Let us renew our commitment to implementing and adhering to peaceful and just systems, so that no refugee is left behind when it comes to returning home, he added.
