    Taslima sentenced to 10 years in prison in drug case

    A court in Jessore has sentenced Taslima, a resident of Benapole border in Jessore, to 10 years in prison and a fine on charges of dealing in phensidyl.

    Special Sessions Judge and Special Judge (District and Sessions Judge) SM Nurul Islam gave this order in a verdict on Monday (May 26).

    The convicted Taslima Begum is the wife of Irajul Islam alias Mirajul Islam of Daulatpur village.

    The matter was confirmed by the PP of the court concerned, Advocate Aminur Rahman.

    According to the case, on the afternoon of December 27, 2021, a team of Khulna RAB arrested Taslima Begum from in front of Zahid Traders in Bora Achara on Gatipara Road in Benapole. At that time, 76 bottles of phensidyl were recovered from the plastic bag she was carrying. In this incident, RAB SI Shafiqul Islam filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Benapole Port Police Station.

    After investigating the case, SI Roknuzzaman, the investigating officer, filed a charge sheet against the accused Taslima Begum. After taking long testimony, the judge sentenced Taslima Begum to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 5,000 taka, and ordered her to be sent to prison for another 3 months.
