    The controversial Papia sentenced to four years in prison

    A court has sentenced expelled Jubo Mohila League leader Shamima Noor Papia to four years in prison in a money laundering case. She has also been fined Tk 5 lakh.

    The Dhaka Special Judge’s Court announced the verdict on Sunday (May 25). However, the other four accused in the case were acquitted.

    Shamima Noor Papia and her husband Mofizur Rahman were arrested from Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport in February 2020.

    The investigation into the case revealed that a criminal gang was formed through politics and influence. Illegal activities were going on in several hotels in Dhaka – where weapons, drugs, and huge amounts of money were traded.
