The man hanging from the train is alive
A man named Matiur Rahman (40) was thrown from the outside of the door of a moving train in Adamdighi, Bogra. He fell under the train but survived. Immediately after that, a 35-second video went viral on social media. The video shows Matiur’s home in Paril village of Raninagar upazila of Naogaon. Many are calling him a thief and a robber. Matiur’s family members have reacted angrily to this.
The incident took place on a commuter train at Nasratpur station in the upazila heading towards Santahar from Bogra at around 12:30 pm on Sunday (May 18).
It was learned that Matiur Rahman was an auto-rickshaw driver by profession. He has been working to send people to different countries through embassies and agencies for two years. Last 20 days ago, he sent Sajeeb Hossain, son of Helal of Talshan village of the upazila, to Saudi Arabia for 4.5 lakh taka. Due to the delay in getting Sajib’s legal documents in Saudi Arabia, his family members went to Matiur’s house 7 to 8 days ago to inquire about the documents. This created a problem there. As a result, when Matiur was alone on the train coming from Bogra, Sajib’s younger brother Rakib and Sajib’s brothers-in-law threw him off the train, calling him a mobile thief and a robber, and snatched 50,000 taka from him, according to Matiur’s family.
Ahsan Habib, son of the victim Matiur Rahman, said, “My father has sent 3 to 4 people to Saudi Arabia so far. They are doing well in that country. Last 15 days ago, my father sent Sajib Hossain, son of Helal of Talshan village in Adamdighi upazila, to Saudi Arabia. He took 450,000 taka from him for sending him to Saudi Arabia. But due to the delay in getting the legal documents there, Sajib sent his father to our house 7-8 days ago. He came and threatened us in various ways. As a result, on the way home from Bogra by train, Sajib’s younger brother Rakib and Sajib’s brothers-in-law tried to push my father off the train, calling him a mobile thief. At that time, my father hung on to the train with great difficulty for about 4 to 5 minutes. They also took away the 50,000 taka that my father had for business. At one stage, when the train reached Nasratpur station in the upazila, my father hit the platform and fell under the train. Although he fell under the train, my father somehow survived. But the excited crowd there, thinking that my father was a mobile thief and a robber, started beating him severely. Later, my father was somehow rescued from there and admitted to the upazila health complex. After that, they called the Santahar railway police station to inform them about the matter and said, “Your father is alive. If he died, a case could have been filed.” A person named Hasan from Kusumbi village in the upazila said that he has known Matiur for a long time. Through him, he sent two of my relatives abroad. One is in Saudi Arabia and the other is in Malaysia. They have not had any problems so far. He has never seen anyone have any problems with Matiur over transactions. Abul Kalam Azad, a resident of Paril village in Raninagar upazila of Naogaon, said the same thing.
Meanwhile, attempts were made to contact Rakib Hossain’s mobile phone several times to inquire about the complaint, but he did not receive the call.
When asked, Sajeeb’s father Helal said, “About a month ago, I sent my son Sajeeb to Saudi Arabia through Matiur for 470,000 taka. So far, Matiur has not been able to give my son any work. I have tried to meet him many times regarding this. He is hiding in different places without meeting me. I went to his house a week ago to inquire about his son. There was no problem there.”
When asked about the allegations of his son’s involvement in throwing Matiur off the train, he said, “When he was coming from Bogra, Sajeeb’s brothers-in-law tried to push Matiur off the train and throw him off.” However, Rakib did nothing there. I cannot say anything about what happened on the train.
Adamdighi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Mostafizur Rahman said, the incident is within the area of the Railway Police Station. Therefore, it is a matter of the Railway Police. That is why we have not filed any complaint.
Santahar Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Habibur Rahman Habib said, they came to the police station and spoke to the sentry and left. I was not there at that time. If they still complain, legal action will be taken after investigation. This is our job. If someone says that no complaint is being taken, it is completely baseless. Moreover, a video of this incident has gone viral, from which I came to know about it. No one from that station informed me about the matter either.
