    The Appellate Division will hear the review of 1114 deprived persons in the 27th BCS

    The Supreme Court will hear the review petition of 1,114 people against the judgment of the Appellate Division, upholding the decision to cancel the first oral examination in the 27th BCS. The review application will be heard on December 4.

    A four-judge appellate bench led by Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed passed the order on Thursday.

    Senior lawyer Barrister Salahuddin Dolan, Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal heard the petition in court.

    The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upheld the High Court’s judgment declaring the cancellation of the first oral examination of the 27th BCS in 2010 valid. Meanwhile, the government’s leave-to-appeal against the High Court ruling declaring the second oral examination invalid was disposed of with some observations.

    At that time, a six-judge bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Mohammad Fazlul Karim, gave the verdict.

    During the Emergency in 2007, the government canceled the results of the first oral examination of the 27th BCS examination due to allegations of irregularities and corruption. The passers filed a writ petition challenging the validity of the cancellation of the results of the oral examination.

    On July 3, 2008, Justice Md. Abdur Rashid and Justice Md. A bench consisting of Ashfaqul Islam upheld the government’s decision. Against that judgment the concerned writ petitioners filed leave to appeal in the Appellate Division.

    On the other hand, another bench of the High Court declared the conduct of oral examination a second time invalid in view of three separate writ petitions. The bench led by Justice Miftah Uddin Chowdhury gave the verdict on November 11 last year. The government filed three leave-to-appeal petitions against the verdict. On the same day, the Appellate Division also disposed of these applications with some observations.

    On January 21, 2007, 3,567 people passed the first oral examination of the 27th BCS. On June 30 of that year, the Emergency Government canceled the results of the first oral examination and two days later the results of the first oral examination were cancelled.

    The second oral examination was held on July 29 of that year. According to the results published on September 23, 2008, 3,229 candidates passed the second oral examination. Later they were assigned to jobs.
