US missile defense system THAAD active in Saudi Arabia!
The Saudi Defense Ministry confirmed this information, according to Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency, citing the Arabic international media outlet Ashraq Al-Awsat. THAAD is capable of intercepting short, medium and intermediate-range ballistic missiles. It is the only US missile defense system that is capable of intercepting targets inside and outside the atmosphere. According to the report, the deployment of this defense system was inaugurated at a ceremony at the Air Defense Forces Research Center in Jeddah province following a training program conducted in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi Defense Ministry said that the move aims to strengthen the country’s air defense capabilities and protect strategic areas. Meanwhile, Newsweek reported that the THAAD system used by the Israeli government has often failed to prevent “retaliatory missile attacks” by Iran and Yemen, which are launched into the occupied territories. The United States has also used about 20 percent of its global THAAD missile reserve in its recent efforts to protect Israel from missile attacks, Newsweek reported.
