Visa ban on Indian travel agents in the United States

The Trump administration has imposed visa bans on several Indian travel agents accused of facilitating illegal immigration to the United States. The move is part of a broader effort to crack down on irregular immigration and human trafficking. The British news agency Reuters reported this information in a report on Tuesday (May 20).

The report said that the visa ban applies to Indian travel agents and others who are accused of creating false documents or helping people enter the United States illegally.

The US government claims that these agents have abused the legal immigration process through sham marriages, bogus job schemes or other illegal means.

The move is in line with the US’s tough policy against ‘birth tourism’ (travel for childbirth) and human trafficking networks.

The banned individuals will become ineligible for US visas and may face further legal action.

On Monday, US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said in a statement that the US Embassy in India is subject to visa restrictions on unidentified individuals under the Immigration and Nationality Act based on information collected. The US State Department said its embassies and consulates are working to identify individuals who facilitate illegal immigration, human trafficking and smuggling.
