When did any party want elections in the second phase of dialogue?

BNP wants elections by December. The party demands that the remaining reforms, except the constitution, be implemented within a month. On the other hand, Jamaat demands that elections be held anytime between December and April.

However, the National Citizens Party (NCP) has said that it will demand the date of the elections only after the July charter is issued.

They said these things after a meeting with the National Consensus Commission and the Chief Advisor at the Foreign Service Academy on Monday (June 2) afternoon.

The National Consensus Commission is holding a dialogue with the political parties in the second phase. The dialogue was inaugurated by the Chief Advisor and President of the Commission, Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

In his opening speech, the Chief Advisor said that all parties have agreed to issue a July charter. Efforts will be made in the second phase of dialogue to establish consensus among the parties on the maximum number of reform proposals.

After the one and a half hour meeting, the representatives of the political parties spoke to the media. Stating that there is no reason why the election cannot be held by December, BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said that the nation expects ultimate impartiality from the chief advisor.

And Jamaat Naib-e-Amir Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said that Jamaat is not in favor of setting a time limit for the election date. He commented that if the election date is announced between December and April, the public’s fears will be dispelled.

Meanwhile, the NCP has demanded that the July charter be published with everyone’s signatures before July and that the Election Commission be reformed. The party’s convener Nahid Islam said that the party will seek time for the national election as a party only after the July charter is announced.

The first day of the meeting to prepare the final reform proposals began with the inauguration of the chief advisor. The BNP will speak on Tuesday (June 3).
