Whose purpose is the Election Commission serving, questions Hasnat

Hasnat Abdullah, the chief organizer of the National Citizens Party (NCP) in the southern region, said, addressing the Election Commission, we had proposed that if the fugitive convicts want to participate in the elections, they should come and submit papers in person. But the Election Commission opposed it. We want to know from the Election Commission, whose purpose are you serving?

He said these things as the chief guest at the July rally in honor of the martyrs and heroic sons injured in the anti-discrimination student movement in Comilla in July on Friday (May 16) evening.

Hasnat Abdullah told Legal Advisor Asif Nazrul, when those involved in the murders go to court, which judge grants bail, who is behind it, you should reveal to us. You are repeatedly saying that you are being made a villain, if someone does not allow you to work, if someone obstructs you, then present it before the nation.

Hasnat further said, addressing the legal advisor, that those involved in the murder are out on bail and roaming in front of the houses of the martyrs. The martyr’s family has come and made such a complaint. This is our failure as well as Asif Nazrul Sir’s failure. We want to know from you (Asif Nazrul), that the second tribunal was supposed to be formed in January. Now, why has the tribunal not been formed in May?

He also expressed his opinion that the trial of the murderers is the main and first reform of this interim government.

Hasnat further said, that we want both reforms and elections. However, there will be trials, reforms, and our elections will be held through this reform process.

Central and local leaders of various anti-fascist political parties including NCP, BNP, Khelafate Majlis, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, AB Party joined the July rally organized by the Comilla district and metropolitan anti-discrimination student movement.

Special guests at the July rally included Saifur Rahman Sagar, Editor of Face the People, Comilla South District BNP Member Secretary Ashiqur Rahman Mahmud Wasim, Chief Coordinator of Conscious Political Forum Comilla Dr. Shah Md.
