Why the US has ‘suspended arms deliveries’ to Ukraine

The United States has suspended some arms shipments to Ukraine. The reason is that US officials said their own stockpiles have been greatly depleted. This is a major setback for Ukraine as it tries to resist Russia’s increasing aggression. The Guardian reported this news on Wednesday (July 2). It said that some weapons were promised to Ukraine under the Biden administration to help Ukraine’s defense system during the more than three-year-old war. But the move to suspend the shipment was taken after Defense Department officials under President Donald Trump examined US stocks and expressed concerns.

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said in a statement, ‘This decision was made to put US interests first after reviewing US military assistance and assistance to other countries around the world. Otherwise, there is no room for questioning the strength of the US armed forces. Just ask Iran.’ Meanwhile, according to a US official who spoke on condition of anonymity, ‘The Pentagon’s review has shown that some previously promised weapons stocks are very low. So some shipments will not be sent.’ However, the Defense Department did not elaborate on what type of weapons are being withheld. The US decision is a setback for Ukraine. As Russia has recently launched its largest airstrikes in the war, the report said, there is no hope of success in the peace efforts led by Trump. Ukraine peace talks are currently on hold.
