Dr. Yunus will take all the responsibility if elections are not held in December: Mirza Abbas
If elections are not held in December, all the responsibility will be taken by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has warned.
He gave this warning while talking to reporters after paying homage at the grave of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman on the 44th death anniversary of his death on Friday (May 30) morning.
Mirza Abbas said, ‘Ziaur Rahman made many reforms, but he did not bring any foreign consultants. He did not import anyone either. But the current government has brought some foreign consultants. While making reforms, they have reached such a state that today they do not want to hold elections.’
Addressing the Chief Advisor, he said, ‘Are you sitting in Japan and defaming BNP? Are you not ashamed to sit abroad and defame BNP? In fact, not BNP, but a single person does not want elections. Dr. Yunus himself does not want elections.
‘Before the BNP demanded, Yunus Sahib had said elections in December. Later, he shifted and said June. If elections are not held in December, Dr. Yunus will have to take all the responsibility,’ added Mirza Abbas.
The BNP leader said, ‘Elections must be held by December. Otherwise, the people will demand elections. If there are no elections, the geographical position of this country will not be right.’
Meanwhile, at the Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP’s prayer mahfil and clothes distribution program on Manik Mia Avenue, Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the party’s standing committee, said, ‘One party only wants elections by December, there is a lack of sufficient information for the chief advisor’s statement. Many people, including BNP’s simultaneous movement partners and the 12-party alliance, have demanded elections by December.’
