India and Pakistan expel two diplomats from their respective high commissions
India and Pakistan have expelled two diplomats from their respective high commissions. Delhi and Islamabad have ordered them to leave the country within the next 24 hours.
On Tuesday (May 13), Pakistan issued a statement declaring an employee of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad persona non grata. This information was reported in a report by the country’s English-language media outlet The Express Tribune.
A statement from the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said that the employee was expelled for engaging in diplomatically incompatible activities.
Earlier, India also declared an official of the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi persona non grata on charges of espionage and ordered him to leave India within 24 hours.
The statement from the Indian Foreign Ministry said that the Pakistani official concerned was involved in some activities that were contrary to his diplomatic status. However, no details were given about the allegations.
Earlier, India-Pakistan relations heated up over the terrorist attack in Pahelgam last month. There were air strikes and counter-attacks, as well as border fighting. Later, both sides agreed to a ceasefire under US mediation.
